When de-scenting..

I skinned a raccoon and re-froze it not too many days ago. I want to thaw it out, finish skinning out the tail and feet. But it has a musk odor to the skin; it was like that before I skinned.
Should I finish roughly fleshing it, and then wash to deodorize? If so, should I let it dry mostly before salting? Or just bear the scent, flesh roughly and salt without washing?

Just get over the musk smell and finish fleshing and remove as much fat as possible, turn ears, split lips, skin out toes, split and skin out tail, then salt, you can wash it after the hydration, a lot of mammals have musk odor, the odor will be gone after the pickling and tanning process, and it is a must to degrease!

Thanks. I have found that the smell diminished a lot during the salting process; you really have to be right on top of the salted skin to notice it much.
