Issues with Krowtan
«
on:

been using Krowtan for last 4 years, follow directions to a T, nuetrilize cape, drip dry for hour or so and the paint McKenzie tan on just for safe measures and extra stretch. I have done numerous deer, and elk, otter, beaver, etc., and now the l;ast 4 whitetails I done are slipping biger than crap. I talked with Brad at Ozark woods and he thinks it is way the deer was handled prior to me, but one was skinned, fleshed and in the tan 3 hrs after being killed. Frustrated.........any suggestions

We are having the same issues with Krowtann, ruining 2 capes. Have you found out any answers yet? If so, we would appreciate letting us know. Thank you,

Put the hair side in for a few min than the skin side out for the rest of the tan. Never had a problem after doing that way.

I've used Krowtann for the past four years and haven't had any problems with slip, but I also don't paint on McKenzie tan. At what stage of your process are you noticing the slip?

maybe overneutalizing, if your useing cream tan why not use with a pickle, its less expensive, have had alot of sliping problems with cream tans, if you need more strech why not shave thinner and/or use a cape snake

Don't know If the McKenzie tan is a great idea!! Never read that anywhere in the instructions... I've used this stuff for the last 8 years and never had a problem..
I don't see how that would be a safe measure..
The only thing's I do different other than What krowtann directions say (I pracriced on junk peices of hide) was I don't use Tide, I use ArmnHammer soap Detergent, and after washing and rinseing. I put in washer on spin cycle and take the excess water out this way and then shave the hide and mount or freeze....
never had any problems with slip from doing it this way... I believe there was an article on here about type of water could play apart, don't know how true it is i have 2 wells and the water gets mixed and I've never had a problem with it... Just go back though the step one by one I'm sure you will find your answer...
