Old monkey skin

I thought I'd post this here for advice from all the guys that have a handle on skins. I'm new to taxidermy and my cousin posed this question:
"I need some advice. My partner has a monkey skin rug....forget what kind of monkey something from Africa it is old his dad brought it home along time ago....need to know what to do with this thing.....the back is kind of stiff should we put a conditioner on it if so what kind. any help about caring for this thing please let me know."
From what I see on this site, she might be best served by just hanging it on the wall and keeping it out of harm's way but I thought I'd see what you all have to say; i've gotten great advice on many other subjects and look forward to your comments. If I should post this in another area please let me know.
Thanks,
Ron

Old means don't fool with it. Leave it alone for the rest of it's days. Who knows how, or if it was tanned. It might have been tanned in a mud puddle if it came from Africa, I wouldn't touch it.

Thanks, Mr. T. That was exactly what I thought; leave well enough alone. She's been offered $800.00 for the skin; I think she should take it. It was brought over from Africa about 1950. Dang, if it was mine I'd probably dump it. I appreciate the advice.

Those old skins, can not be made new,,, and they can only get older. A fur dresser would be the guy to take it to, they may have a trick or to to freshen it up a bit, or not.
