I have never had a problem stretching them back.  It isn't hard work if they are wet tanned or if they are properly re hydrated.  I have never tried to salt dry and stretch them at the same time because all of the 4 stretchers I have are made of steel.  They rust enough without adding salt to them.   I just start them off by giving them a quick tug before I start to mount them, I figure they stretch themselves back if you use enough glue on your form.  I did one this morning that I didn't stretch back at all.  It was a wet tanned wt cape.
