Looks cool, I like the natural staining on the skull. What is that white thing it is on, Is it some kind of stoneware? Can you post more pics of the whole coyote skull?

Oh; it is an old mortar and pestle container. My husband ended up dropping it; I had to put it back together. I will post another pic of the skull in a sec!

Here it is. I found it on an old farm in NY state. It actually seems to have a relatively more-rounded top side than other coyotes I have seen; it could possibly be a dog?

I could be wrong - but that doesn't look like a coyote skull. Did those canines come in the skull? It's weird, the lower jaw doesn't look like it matches the rest of it - and the canines look too big to me...but I'm not an expert in skulls by any means. You should PM Rhasputin - she is awesome with skull IDing.

Oh yeah - and I like the photo!!!

Thanks Smiley The teeth and lower jaws are all original. I will get better pics. The jaws were sitting out in the open a bit more than the skull, and were not stained as much by the earth.
I strongly suspect that it is a dog. It was found on a farm, behind a falling-down old barn.. seems like maybe someone hastily buried their dog maybe?

I am going to post pics in the skulls/skeletons section.

I saw your other post in the S&S section, it is good you had a coyote skull for comparison. I would guess it to be a domestic dog skull aswell. I believe there are also hybrids that are coyote/dog crosses.

Thanks. I really think that it is a dog skull now, after comparing it at length to the yote skull. Interesting!
