I just got these to remount. The one on the right is 73 yrs old and starting to fall apart, but the other is only 5yrs old(donkey buck). This should be interesting.

I wouldn't call the 73 year old one nasty. It looks great for it's age considering what they had to work with. But the 5 year old mount, shame on him. With all the knowledge available today just from Rick Carters Whitetails A to Z video, there is no excuse for that.

The 73 year old one actually looks like it was some very quality work when it was done.
That 5 year old one is depressing, they didn't even carve out the nose. . .

How do we know it's a $250 mount?  It looks more like a $150 mount but the guy could have paid $550 or even more, who knows.

I think the term '$250 mount' is now just a slang term for any mount done recently, by someone who is taking clients but has no idea what they're doing, and turns out shiesty work.

I think the older mount is great - I know not technically great, but I love the old, well done ones. I'm just shocked at the nose on the newer mount....wow!

Here is the tear down of the donkey one. I am baffled I think this guy made more work for himself doing it wrong. I just don't understand his processes.
-roofing nails
-no hide paste
-finishing nails 8d
-plaster fill on cheeks (it just crumbled and fell off the form as i pulled the cape away)
-hide was too small-pieced chunks in and nailed
-cut of eye set area on the form, to do whatever you would call that mess of an eye set
-nose?Huh
-lips sewn sut not tucked
