I am trying to figure out the best way to do this.  I have a 4" x 36" cedar branch that is going to be the resting place for a bobcat.  The bobcat will be straddling the limb, so I need about 4"-6" of clearance on the back side of the limb, at least where his legs will be.  What is the best way to attach the log to a panel, or any other way, that will leave space on both sides and still be able to hang on the wall.  What would be the strongest way to accomplish this? I have considered a gun panel with heavy bolts, countersinking the bolts on the front of the log and hiding with moss or something, or a piece of wood between the rear and front leg bolting the panel to the log.  I'm not sure, but I figured maybe one of you guys have done this before.  Thanks.

several ways to do this.  I would suggest cutting 2 pieces of cedar that matches what you are using.  Use them as spacers to hold your show cedar away from the wall or panel far enough to make room for the legs.  I would use a lag bolt counter sunk on the back side of the panel thru the spacer and into the cedar limb.  Use some wood lichen/moss to cover any seams that show.
