Foam Question?
«
on:
December 23, 2011, 12:04:51 PM »
Can I buy the foam used to create the flexible tail on otters? If so where (i cant seem to find it)? If not, can I mix something to my urethane foam to create the flexible"ness" of the flexible otter tails?
Thanks for your time

Got my answer straight from McKenzie...the flexible foam is copyrighted by McKenzie and the rep said it was a "highly guarded secret", and of course not available. Would have been a fun thing to experiment with. Maybe some day.

I highly doubt the McKenzie has a copy right on flexible foam, since other supply companies sell flexible tails. Now they might have the rights to the exact recipe for THEIR flexible foam but not all.
My suggestion would be to do some more searches online and I'm sure you will find a supplier of it.

You can get the flexable foam directly from Gene Hallet at Lifetone. I got some from him a few years ago for a project I had to do.

You can buy FlexFoam 5,8,10 and 25 pound densities. Www.tfbplastics.com or 5865667900. I would go with the 5 or 8 lbs.

Lol McKenzie must be getting a heck of a lot of money off of Chevy, GM, and ford foam seat cushion contracts. Nate if you want deal with someone with integrity, call Doug. If he hasn't set you up yet give him a call. Their company has a very diverse product line for all your needs not just foams, ask him about the urethane's and rubber types he's got too, its pretty neat stuff

model makers use foam latex for flexible casts...it use to used for models in stop motion animation....only thing is you need to use plaster molds...as it has to be baked in a oven

McK actually said this? Ironic. They B.S. a customer, yet own the website that they will get busted out on. Goes to show how they are no more honorable than anyone else.
Jameson Chemical 2200 Terminal St. Niles, MI 49120 269-684-4451. They even advertise in Breakthrough.
