A friend gave me a bear cape. I caped it out for a half lifesize. I am going to tan this bear myself. I am not going to send this out. I want to try to tan this myself. I have split, turned, and fleshed on the dakota, and salted. Salted again 24 hours later, and again this evening (24 hours later). The hide is basically dry but still pliable.

After extensive reading in the archives, I am going to pickle this hide with citric acid along with tannery degreaser in the pickle. I was out of citric acid so I had to order some and also the degreaser. With the holiday schedule, I will not get my acid until about Wednesday.

Will this cape be ok in this salted state until then? I think it will, but not totally sure. Is there any certain way I need to store it until next week?

Thanks in advance for any help!
Dave

How beautiful the river flows the and the birds they sing
But you and I we're messier things
They're ain't no one leavin' this world buddy
Without their shirttail dirty
Or their hands bloody
