Well, the rest will happen after the UTA Show as I am leaving in the morning on my road trip up to PASCO, Washington.  Won't be back until around 17-18 January.

Once I popped the cast out of the mold I sawed off the excess foam and then added a layer of bondo to the outside and after drying to the belly as well.  Now it is totally covered with bondo and filled with foam.  Then with a combination of an electric hand held sander and a little elbow grease with a piece of sandpaper I now have it ready for a test fit.  Then I can add the muscle detail before mounting.  In one of the pictures you can see that I also molded and casted the head separately.  I will also fill in the small tail as I am mounting it.







This process was to show how to carcass cast a snake (just one method to reach the final goal of a snake mannikin).  This is really easy on smaller snakes, and allows you to make a mannikin on snakes that don't have forms available in the taxidermy supply catelogs.

And finally got it mounted.  Now I have to keep checking and fixing scale alignment, taking a syringe and sucking out any air pockets, playing with the eyes, etc...  Everything is too soft and it is better to come back this evening or first thing in the morning and make more adjustments.

Very cool technique, this will help me with an idea I've been working on.
I have a gaboon viper skull, and it's in my top 5 favorites of a over 200 species collection.
