The words "faster" and "easier" should NOT be applied to the tanning process......unless you are looking for "worster" and "worstest" results!

Lucky, some things are done SLOWLY and DELIBERATELY.

Old Fart, before I got a really nice power washer I could sit around on my ass fleshing bison skins, drinking coffee ;-)  But now that I got the belt drive model, I really don't find the time to sit around when a bison skin needs fleshing!

Bet you have some nice biceps muscle20 ;-)

msbraintain your taking the advise i gave to luckyd in the wrong way and possibly was taken wrong by others so i will refraise what i said in more description
In our line of work its all about attetion to detail, not getting in a hurry and rushing threw any of the processes to turn out the best quaility possible(not working yourself to death or killing yourself) but doing your best for the best you can do.There is several good and bad ways to tan a hide/cape and im sure there will be posts with them for him.Im just saying in our line of work dont rush threw, take the easiest fastest way possible, and slap stuff together. If so this is probably not the line of work for you to be in.(My point of veiw).
The best way to get a hide/cape tanned without "killing yourself" is to sent it off,the fastest way to get a cape/hide tanned is a different question that should not be in the same sentance as the best way.Attention to detail, best quaility possible=better taxidermy, or am i wrong?

Hey thanks for your detailed reply! Yes I do know what you all mean! And yes it is hard to avoid soaking and agitating! You really can't hurry any of this. It really shows when every attention to detail is placed slowly and deliberately.

That's ok,,, if you have thick skin and just look by some of that ,,there is a lot to be learned here.  They just want you to know there are no shortcuts when it comes to quality in this art!!

Krowtann takes WAY too long, you have to wait 2, sometimes three days for a hide to finish. What's even worse is Liqua Tan, after 3 days in the pickle you tan it, then wait another 6 hours for the tan to penetrate before you can do anything with it. Tanneries can take up to 120 days to get skins back. Who had time for that?
