Spirit Creek Taxidermy

« on: January 02, 2012, 10:45:46 PM »

Looking for a class on just Whitetail deer.  I recently went to the internet and found not one but three Reinhardts in the Wisconsin.  Saw feed back on the three some good and some ok (I don't think anyone would say anything bad but.....)  With that said I and still at a lost as to which one to attend.  Travel is not the issue as I am retired.  The big question is how does one pick a school?  Do schools have to have any credentials?  How do I check out the instructors?

You just have to do some homework. In this day of instant information and websites, anyone can claim to be anything they say.
Just because someone has a nice website and student recommendations (those can be made up too) doesnt necessarily mean they're legit. Schools are popping up everywhere and just like taxidermists they're not all equal in ability. Dig deeper and ask a lot of questions. If gameheads are your interest, let me recommend Bill Yox and John Griffith. Either of these guys offer a great gamehead course. Look thru the training forum, theres lots of good options, then... research.

while I agree Bill is a great teacher...i would strongly recommend hering ahold of him first as I am pretty sure he likes you to already have a good foundation in place. I went yo johns and while I learned to put a deer together....when I retruned home I learned how to correctly put one together through this site and guys like rob and bill coates. I later went to yox for more advanced help and hands on anatomy lessons. Whatever you decide...understand that it is going to take some time before you really get it. My first year I did 23 wts, 2nd year around 50......and in my third year I raised my prices and still took in 50+..... So get a good base and start slow....i won't recommend one over the other but I would steer clear of dan. having talked to him a couple times...the arrogance level is off the charts...john was a nice guy but you wil have to adjust your techniques when you return home.....all of which can be found on this site. Good luck!!
