Well I have to ask as I couldn't find the answer...  There are a large amount of people that use the Krotann method fleshing, mixing, soaking, rinse, and wring clean for mounting.  Then there are others that insist that the deer cape must be sent out to be tanned wet or dry.  Is there any benefit to either?  Is cost the main reason for not using the tanners? or is it just easier to use the Krotann?  Then we have the Dan Reinhardt of flesh apply the tan cream and its done.  What about his hair slipping on thicker deer hides?  and if its that great why are the others not using his method?  I'm sure I forgot somthing in this but I'll go with this for now.

I just started using the krowtan regularly this year, mainly because I have it ready to mount in a week instead of waiting several months to get it back from the tannery.  It is also a lot cheaper, but there is a lot more time, work and messing around compared to just fleshing and salting and sending away.

I use a commercial tannery simply because i dont want the hassle and extra work it takes to self tan.
I just prep, rough flesh, salt and forget about it.  Theres nothing wrong with self tanning either, its a matter of how much work you want to do.

Had people say you cant do bears in them but have done 3 and they came out great. When someone says you cant do something on hear its there opinion and nothing else. All you can do is try it if it works go with it.You can get great info on here but if i listened to everything peopie say i cant do or they would not do i wount get anywhere.

Self tan if you have the time, send it out if you don't have time or want to mess with it. A lot less turn around doing it yourself.
