STEP ONE:Start with a foam block about 4"x4".cut in two.Begin shaping with a rasp and file to your liking.no wrong way here.whatever shape you like

STEP TWO: Mix McKenzie rock mix to the consistency of milk. This wil be your scratch coat.Brush on a coat to the entire rock.Set aside and dry.Usually dries quick.

STEP THREE:Now once dry mix another small batch of rock mix. This time make it a little thicker than peanut butter.Apply to the rocks following your carving.Build some spots thicker thn others.once done as it begins to kick start carving some detail using a modeling tool.once happy set aside to dry overnight.

STEP FOUR:Once dry take acrylic paints black, brown, light brown and grey.Water them down. You want the paint to run.Start paining with black in all the cracks and shadow areas.Next use the browns and then some grey.Go back and forth with each color.I use the same brush for each color without cleaning in between.once your happy set aside. As the rocks begin to dry take a clean brush (I use a 1 inch trim brush).Lightly blend and fade the colors. In the highlight areas you want to blend lighter to expose some light color.Once your happy let dry completely.

FINAL STEP:Once rocks are dry spray with an acrylic sealer.I use a matte finish.I hope this helps some of you guys and gals out
