what is the reason for thinning ? do i let the hide dry some to use a belt sander? is 80 grit to coarse?

Deer hides need to be thinned prior to tanning. Sanding them down will soften them up a bit but will require a washing afterwards. You may also need reapply oil to the hide once your all finished sanding.
