What is the best way to rehydrate a soft tanned cape? I need to get measurements for form size but the cape has been tanned and the face and ears are a little stiff.

4 oz. salt to a gallon of tepid water and a cupful of some type of water softener (Downy) soak this for thirty minutes drain and put in a plastic bag and place it in a fridge over night. That should hydrate the skin and then you can get your measurements.  After that freeze the hide till your ready to mount it. Do not let it dry out again.
