From what I've read I would have to say maceration or beetles but if your starting out like me you probably don't have a beetle colony layin around lol.

i know im alittle late on this but maybe it will help someone. i bought the buck boiler i think i paid 70 or 80 dollars for it. i have done around 30 skulls in this year. it is worth its weight in gold. all u do is put water in it and plug it in. i put alittle casade powder in with the skull it helps to pull all the oil out of the skull. around 4 hours the meat will fall off. now u got to do a little picking here and there. once im done i wash it and take a toothbrush with dawn dish soap and get all the little stuff i missed off it.. let it dry over night and go to a place that sells hair products get basic white powder and 40% cream mix them to a pancake batter and cover your skull. once you got it covered wrap the skull in plastic wrap and place the skull near a heat source.. i leave mine for atleast 3 days, unwrap wash it in warm water and let it dry.. u will have a snow white skull....

If you love something set it free.  If it comes back to you it is yours and if it doesn't, hunt it down and kill it!

i got my buck boiler from amazon.com thats the cheapest i found it. and i go to sallys for all my chemicals. the powder is called quick white it is what they use to bleach hair or put highlights in hair with, now the cream comes in 10 20 30 40 and 50%. but inorder to get the 50% you got to have a special card i guess they give you if you go to a school for doing hair..... so what i did was told the wife i wanted to go with her when she gets her hair done.... she knew something was up.. lol.. i talked to the lady that owened the shop and explained what i was doing.. she ordered me some 50% cream. i will tell u there is a big difference between 40% and 50% if u get it on ur fingers you will see what im talking about... dont get me wrong i have used 40% for a long time and it works good too...   ok so the cream i use is made by salon care both thecream and powder.... i hope this helps you all

TK.30-06 your best bet is to do alot of research in skulls section.  Alot of good info.  Look into degreasing, not to down play others methods but I've never seen a deer skull go from boiling to whitening without eventually leaching grease, especially between the antlers.  Just trying to point you in the right direction but everyone learns what works for them and they're own tricks.

Those are volumes, not percentages.
10 is 3% Same strength as first aid stuff
20 is 6%
30 is 9%
40 is 12%
50 is 15%

adbrooks8 is right.. when i put my skulls in to boil i take a hand full of cascade dish washer powder in with it.. and after u get all the meat and junk out of it, i put clean water with a hand full of cascade and boil it again.. you will see the oils on the top of the water.  then when i take it out i spray it off with the hose....
