Greetings Ellie, you will have a blast, because you have a great attitude. I have never been judged by Brian, but he is a great artist. judging will be tougher than what Page judged you, and ALOT tougher than what I judged you. there are no freebie ribbons at nationals. the curve is higher. I havent been to nationals in awhile, but I know things are getting better quality every year. One of your top competitors in Florida got a 96 from me in Florida, and an 89 at nationals for the same piece. but didnt make the repairs I suggested, and competition got a little tougher at nationals. also your mentor had the same experience. do your best. dont let anything out. If you could tell the judge during your critique,"yea, I should have fixed that", then FIX IT he will catch it. flaws that are 1 point at state shows, can be 10 points at nationals. many may not agree, thats just my perspective, and opinion. good luck. call me if I can help.

Thanks for calling today, Dan, I really appreciated your advice! I had at first considered repairing and entering one of my previous mounts from the FL competition, but decided against it since I think I can do a better job just starting fresh on a new specimen. I have learned so much from the last few state shows that I'm sure I can do a lot better on my next peice. It'll be a great challenge but I'm looking forward to it!
