Earliners..anything other than Bondo that can be used?

Ted I take of the Bondo you put on a car wasn't YOUR car. It disbonfs if it gets wet and if you have another wreck, people could get killed with all the Bondo shrapnel flying. And I assure you, it doesn't "penetrate" the skin or anything else.

I love the Forum and the opportunity to see the pros argue!  In the time since I hillbillied my deer's ears with Bondo I have used instruction from "Cole" to finish the nose and "eddieb"
 to finish the eyes. Good eyes, good nose, bad ears; 2 out of 3 ain't bad! 
You folks provide a great service to those of us that visit the site only when we need help. Thanks to all, especially those dedicated enough to post nice tutorials for beginners like myself. Hopefully next year I will shoot a deer big enough to mount.  In the meanwhile, someone come up with the best adhesive for earliners.

Actually George it was the first truck I ever owned, and I never had a problem with it cracking or anything, but yes in an accident I'm sure it would come off.

they use a process on classic cars where the whole car is buttered with bondo and templates are used to restore proper lines.....and they sure dont drill holes in them.....and if bondo doesnt stick to metal why is it so hard to clean my stainless mixing tools after the bondo hardens.....and in construction we use bondo to repair dents in hollow metal doors and frames...and we sure dont drill holes in them....der

byrdman, I've done a bit of car work in my time.  On SMALL dings, sanding with heavy grit will give the Bondo enough "tooth" to attach itself.  Still, the bond is tenable and must be sealed heavily so that it doesn't DISBOND.  A sharp rap on the back side will still send it flying.   Ask any fiberglass guy and he'll tell you that oftentimes fiberglass won't even attach to itself.  That's exactly why when rebuilding with fiberglass, you use thicker matting and Cabosil (so that it won't drip off like any fiberglass filler will if not filled so that it doesn't make a get away.)  Anyone doing body work knows that even after Bondo, it takes a super craftsman using  glazing compound to recreate that "new" car look.

yeah these guys are good....most of the bondo it of course sanded off and the finish is better than the original factory paint job...

If used properly bondo works great with fabric form or celastic earliners. Never used it with plastic though. The best mammal taxidermist I've ever met uses it with all his earliners and he won a national championship that way. Just make sure the skin is not too wet, use a blow drier to dry the inside of the ear enough for the skin to stick and make sure the liner is trimmed to fit the ear properly.

But to answer the question as to alternatives, I have used both magic smooth and van dykes bond tite epoxy  and they both work very good just a little more messy and expensive than bondo. In tech school they taught us with magic smooth.

george has alot of knowledge...you might learn something if you pay attention....he will also ALWAYS weigh in on topics such as bondo and krowtann...with 2 posts you should already know that:)
