had a customer bring in a bear he got a few years back, he was planning to mount it himself so he had a co-worker "wet tan" his bear for him.   well i thawed it out and shaved it, the top half of the bear looks great, nice white leather but from the armpits down the skin is still damn near raw.    He has no way of contacting this guy so with out knowing what process he used is there anything i can do to tan the rest of the bear?  the only thing im worried about is something having a negative effect on the good portion of the hide

The only thing I would do, not knowing what process or what was done to the bear is, put it through the pickle process, the degreasing process and use a tanning agent, if it looks raw it was not pickled properly or degreased properly, in order for the pickle to be effective and do its job, degrease the skin during the pickle process, if the skin is in good condition it will not hurt to put the skin through the whole process again.
