I posted this message in the topic of "Need help with fleshing machine", and no one has answered it,

I have the same problem with my Rawhide table fleshing machine. Ripples in cape, on brand new blade. I can't get the blade sharp. I think it might be the motor. It's not the right motor or hp for this machine. I bought it used.  Does anyone know the right motor, hp, and rpm's for this fleshing machine . Also the brand of motor that is used. I had the guy who sells these tell me once, but I can't find where I wrote it down.
When I take the arbor off, and spin the blade while holding the shaft, it spins smooth. I don't think it's the bearings. Machine and table kinda wobble slightly, when running, and the table jumps when I turn it off.
Can anyone help me on this?

The motor spins a drive pulley that spins a belt that spins another drive pulley that is attached to a shaft supported by bearings, this shaft assembly is the mounting to the blade where the blade is attached with anywhere from 2 to 4 mounting screws.

So, how does a motor effect the trueness of the edge of the blade, the mounting of the blade and the alignment of the blade on the shaft that is supported by bearings?

I think you are starting at the wrong end of the machine.

Jay, chances are you simply have a blade with a bad edge. A dull spot on a blade will cause the ruffled potato chip look, the sharp part cuts deeper, the dull parts shallower. If you have a blade with an edge that is the same sharpened all the way around, whether it be razor sharp or dull as a garden hoe, you won't get ripples, even if you can physically see a little run out in the blade. Getting it reground should solve your problem.

Bad bearings will cause a growl and a vibration, but shouldn't affect the cut itself much unless things are so bad the whole table is vibrating.

I do have what inventory was left from rawhide in my possesion now, including one complete shaver, it has a WEG 1/2 hp 1750 RPM TEFC motor on it, nit sure if he used WEG on all his machines or not, but they had several other WEG motors, I can get you the frame size if you need it.

I don't have a lot of stuff, but what I do have I am going to sell for Rose and Trevor when we figure everything out.
