I am a 2 weeks guy, i degrease whitetails that long and whiten then see what they look like. Most of the time a deer can be done n that time with good hot consistant temps. If they dont look good, back to the water and the BO helps to degrease.
Wow Kurt....How "hot" are you running??

I just took a doe out of maceration this morning and it had little tiny bits on meat on it around those 2 little ball things. (forgot the name) I put it into my deagreasing tank, will those little bits of flesh come off? Even if they stay on until just before its done degreasing I don't care, if not I guess its back to maceration.

RD i try to keep my tanks around 130 to 140, with a small pond pump to circulate the water. Im not saying they are all done in 2 weeks time but most of my whitetails are. I recently have been working on a "deer farm" head and it must have something to do with his diet because he has been degreasing close to 2 months and still not done. And of course the one customer that actually wants the bottom jaw.....this one that i cant get degreased!

do you guys notice that the area behind the the last tooth on each side in the back below the eye socket seems to be the last spot to get grease free on a whitetail?

I use 1/4 cup for 5 gallons at the most. Heat to 115 or as close to it as I can get.

Yes, there are those tale-tale spots that always take longer to degrease. the spot behind the teeth and around the teeth. also behind the eye socket on side of skull. but if you look close, there's also still grease in that thick bone aroea around the back and base of skull cavity. i don't think i've ever gotten a skull truly free of grease. but i think i'm getting them free enough that it won't leach out and look bad on the wall.
i heat my water to 120 with a good 3 second squirt of dawn. change water every few days. seems like it never gets clear. usually 2months for white tails. i let dry and even heat a little to try and see what might leach out. usually i'm happy when nothing visibile surfaces. often still a little grease still around brainstem area on base of skull. you gotta stop somewhere. I just started trying a bubbler - maybe that will help.

Its good to be Mike.
I had a guy drop off a skull three months ago on his way to the Taxi
He called yesterday to let me know he picked up his mount?
" How's the skull coming?"
