How long to thaw a whole coyote?  Been thawing for most of a day and all night still not real workable.

Not worried about anything except the ears etc.. slipping I sprayed them several times with stop rot.

Thanks, John

I always use a big tub of cool saltwater to thaw out frozen hides and animals. But you have to be ready to skin them out and get salt on them.

2-3 days on the Shop Floor at 60 degree ambient temps.  I personally wouldn't soak a whole coyote in saltwater...

Usually a day and a half in my shop. The feet and head are the first to thaw and I just cover those with heavy towels till the body thaws enough to skin.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

I've had them take up to four days in cool to cold weather.  That thick fur is great insulation!  Never had one slip.

It doesn't take all that long.  That is if you can fit them in your microwave.  Even faster if you set it on high instead of defrost.

Take a piece of rope and tie one end around the coyote's foot. Take the other end and tie it up to some sort of hook or what have you to  your ceiling, rafter, whatever; suspending it off of the ground. More even thawing, and a bit quicker. Still takes a coyote in my shop a day and a half to do it that way. Skin it, turn it, flesh it, and get it on salt!
