My daughters house burnt down a week ago but we managed to save a deer head that has smoke and soot damage. It was kind of funny...the house is still smokig and my son in law scoots around the fire chief runs in the house and comes out with his prized deer head under one arm and his TV under the other. A true red neck. I have searched the archives to find out how to clean the mount but I wondered if anyone had any new method that had worked well for them. Do I clean it with soap and water or is there some new rocket science product.
Thanks
Greg

I kinda depends on how bad the soot is.  I once did a whole trophy room full of smoke damaged trophies, I used the power washer, started at the nose and cleaned with the flow of the hair.  Squeegee out the water with your hand, then rub down with towels, get dry as possible, I then sprayed down with L. thinner and wiped with towel till towel was cleam.  Use master blaster to dry. set in front of fans for couple days.  touch up paint where neccessary.  The smoke smell is sometimes very stubborn.   Sprinkle hair and rub in some baking soda let sit for several days and air out outside if possible.  Use compressed air or master blaster to blow powder out. Repeat everything if neccessary.

I have went into many apartment fires and had to clean and paint them as a youngter we used TSP from your grocery store. takes that soot off great. mix a cup with hot water and be sure and rinse good, if they smell like smoke mix some pinesol maybe in with your TSP then when you rinse it off, it should smell a lot better. hope it works out for ya.
