Worst paint color to get off your hands......
«

Kinda of a lame post here but just wanted to see if other people share my frustration with certain colors that dont come off your hands easy.
IF.....I remember to wear gloves or bother to put them on, no problamo....but usually I grab the paint, put in what I need and go for it. I'm not real careful I guess, because I always manage to get some paint on me, usually when I'm switching colors.
The paint that gives me the most problem getting off my hands/fingers, is "GILL friggin RED". I'm talking the waterbased stuff too and it doesnt matter how quick you react to get it off. L Thinner has a hell of time getting it off much less using water and dawn.
Just curious if anyone "Sees Red" like me.....LOL.

Black is my worst. I try to wear gloves for finish work, but like you said, sometimes I forget before it's too late. My hands are so dry and cracked this time of year it really is tough to get off.

I've never once had a problem with getting paint off my hands. Not once. But then again, I started wearing rubber gloves when I pick up an airbrush ages ago. If the paint weakens and blisters them, I just peel them off and walk over to the cabinet and get another pair. Don't have any issues with fiberglass, Bondo, epoxy,or hide paste. I go though a box of gloves a week quite often, but I don't worry about going to the doctor ultra-red cuticles or black under my fingernails.

Painting is the one area in my shop where I always have the latex gloves on when the compressor is a rockin. However, my hands get tired with gloves on when I sit and tip scales so I usually go gloveless here. Anytime I DO get paint on my bare hands I immediately head to the sink and use Lava soap and the paint comes off. If you discipline yourself to wear gloves most of the time (and re-use them til they're no good) you won't have any issues. All paint is tough to get off once it sets up unless chemicals are used (not good) so it comes down to disciplining yourself. No matter how careful I am painting, there's no way I can clean out my airbrush between some colors doing the blowback w/o getting paint on my hands. You have to wear gloves Brian! It basically comes down to getting in a rhythm and doing tasks in a particular order the same way everytime. Much like I always mix my Apoxie Sculpt in order EVERY TIME - part A first, then part B (I'll never mix the same parts together!), painting is no different BEFORE you kick on your compressor, put the gloves on! You'll get use to them AND a side benefit is the more you do tasks in the same order every time the more second nature it is and it's much more efficient.
I too thought black was the toughest to get off when I did get paint on my hands.
Easiest color to get off? Fleshtone - lol!

Ok then.....how did I know this would spin into a "wear your gloves Watson" thread....lol. I have to admit, guilty as charged though.
Here's a test I want you to try Marty. Spill a little gill red on a couple fingers, go to the sink, and Lava yourself silly. It's just a tough color to get off.
Why I decided to post up on it was the last time I used it PRIOR to going out to dinner with my wife, son and son's girlfriend for her Birthday. Nice restaurant, dress clothes and me with a faint amount of gill red on my one hand. I got most of it off but almost ANY other water-based color comes off pretty clean. Black's probably second.
Yeah, yeah, yeah......gotta use my protection ALL the time I guess......"Safe Painting" eh?.....
....Note: I'm good about wearing my mask, does that count.....lol

Brian try some 90% rubbing alcohol for removing the paint. You know am am a firm believer in the powers of alcohol, lol. The stuff is better for your health than the L thinner.

That's why I like them tight baby! drawback as I mentioned is your hands fatigue quicker.
"Polytranny" Brian? That sounds like a "get your freak on" term???
BTW, I DID use some HM Gill Red on my truck windows when Cooper won State. And come to think of it, it was pretty hard to get off even with Windex!!! That's as close to testing it on my hands that you're gonna get bud!

I wear my paint on my hands with pride. I know you have a business Brian where you really should not have gill red on your hands. I don't wear gloves painting and if I do spill paint on my hands I hit it quick Windex and then go to the sink and flush and comes right off. Some of the paints now from polytranspar & life tone smell so bad now days I do wear gloves. What is up with the paint formula with some of these companies.
