HELP PLEASE on slippage

OK. This is what i have and I'm need help fast on what to do. The hunter skinned the deer out and brought him to me after he got finished. I put him straight in the freezer to work on him later. Set him out to thaw, and in his neck he was actually still a Lil frozen but was able to finish skinning him out with no problems. Put the hide back in the freezer to work on him on a later date when i got more time to flesh him out and all. Set him out and he still wasn't completely thawed out when i started working on him so i put him in the frig over nite to work on him the next day, tonite. started fleshing him out and noticed hair slippage already. It started on the back side of the shoulder and is about the size of a small palm already. started looking it over and its starting in the brisket area as well. what can i do to stop this so i can finish this hide, or is there anything i can do. i stopped and wrapped him up in a wet towel and put him back in the freezer for now. If anyone can please help me it will be greatly appreciated.

If the hair slipped right off down to bare skin it's finished, it will never make it through the tanning process.  How long did the hunter have it before he skinned it out? The thaw and freeze should not have made a difference if the cape was fresh, but doing it too many times will.

Stop rot the bad areas. Your biggest problem is most likely brought on by yourself by freezeing and thawing multiple times. You should have thawed him once, skun, fleshed and salted. Hides take a long time to freeze and if there is any moisture or bacteria already growing those "hot spots" may take a day or longer to freeze each time you freeze it if they are in the center of the cape. Which leads me to your next problem. Now you added water "wet towel" to your cape and bacterias best friend is water and warm temps. If you don't have any stop rot or stop slip I'd get the cape fleshed and salted good on the body before you start turning the head. However is you have that big of a slip already the ship may have already sailed on that one but if the rest of the cape holds you may be able to go with an offset shoulder form to the opposite turn as the slip since the offest will give you a short shoulder on the off side.

I am not as experienced as the rest of these guys and to be honest they might be able to give you better info. First Why did you wrap it in a wet towel then put it in the freezer? you want to avoid adding moisture, it will grow bacteria. Also when you thaw it out make sure it is thawed completely when you take that towel apart from the hide, if it is still frozen in a spot, when you pull it it will pull hair out. If you have or can get some STOP SLIP and spray the hair side. Finish what you need to and salt as you go to pull some moisture out. After you do what you need to tan as soon as you can, if you are home tanning. Take this info with a grain of salt because it still might not work. there is a point of no return on capes that go bad.

It's possible you can still save it. There may only be that one "hot spot" that went to heck on you however you need to take care of it now. May be a late night for you but its the price you pay some times. I've had it happen with a couple pronghorn and a couple deer that guys brought in that were already slipping but only in confinded areas and lucky were able to work around them like I mentioned above. Actually one of them is the loper in my avatar I did for comp last year. It had a softball size slip going right up to the edge of the form on the off side.

my bbuddy says he has some stop rot, so im on the way to get it now a see if i can save this hide. thanks again for all the help guys.

Make sure you spray it good around the slipping areas and work it down through the hair carefully so it gets down and soaks the skin.
