Painting a blank

I have a large mouth blank that I'm trying to paint my quition is I've primed it and it is now an grayish/blue color, would I start like a skin mount and white it totally out then cover that with black and steal wool it to get my start.asked this quition yesterday but had it in the wrong area.

yes that would be fine just make sure the paint doesn't get to thick that you loose scale detail.

I know a lot of people use black but just be careful and don't make it too dark or you'll be putting another coat of white to tone it down. I use Paynes Grey or blending brown. Just a thought.

one more quition the last time I painted a blank [I guess it could have happened to a skin mount] when I glossed it using Envirotex the greens ran ,should I stay away from transparent color or the thick gloss ?

IMO, you are going to need transparent colors for a bass, I would try another gloss. When you apply the gloss, spray a very light flash coat first to lock in your paint. If you hit it too thick on the first coat, you might lose some color.
