During the day when I'm working in the shop I used to always leave the door open when I run into the house for a coffee break, but I've seen the neighbors dog running loose lately and can't take the chance.  And worse yet is a pesky roadrunner that keeps coming into the shop while I'm working.  He has knocked stuff over on the counter before, otherwise he is good company.....but I've been trying to scare him off so he won't attack any of my reptile mounts, etc..

Glad to hear you found it, that is a sick feeling.   One of my first ever clients brought a whitetail skull for me to do a European.   I did the paper work and left it at the corner of the house so I could grab something to eat before taking it in.   Went out and it is gone.   I searched for a week for that thing.   Finally sucked it up called the client with the bad news only to find out he decided to pick it back up when he left cause he still had some people to show.   Never mentioned this to me.   I went from expecting the chewing to grinding my teeth to keep from giving the chewing.

Glad that worked out for you Smiley

All this talk of disappearing stuff makes me remember last summer. All my maceration buckets were full and I had an extra coyote head, so I put it in a black plastic bag that was slightly opened to let some bugs get a start on it. Came out one day, the blag was blown away by the wind and the head was just gone. I never did find it, but thankfully it was just one of mine. It still baffles me, as the head was pretty advanced in decay and my backyard is *fenced in*. I haven't once in my life seen any critters around here except stray cats and bunnies.

I've also had rot containers knocked over and rotten muskrat skulls thieved. Hard to imagine anything would be able to eat those besides vultures.

Glad that you found them , Had a customer bring me a large mouth one time when he got to the house he pulled it out to show me. not noticing or thinking we went in to fill out papper work, as he was doing that I remembered the fish went to get it and it was gone started to lose it looking all over, panicking when I happened to see the end of the tail going under his truck stray cat had grabbed it only took a minute. but ,I was so glad to get it back .

ONce had a grayling skin soaking in a 5 gal. bucket with about 1 gal. of coleman fuel.  Next morning on the patio was a cat eating the head of my grayling.  How he smelled and got that fish skin out of all that gas was unbelievable.  Thank goodness I had a spare grayling  to use.

WOW, lesson learned I guess...Glad you found them. I read it and thought to my self "Oh no!". Really felt sorry for you...I dont even do customer stuff yet, and I am paranoid about my 3 yr old getting ahold of my coyote I just mounted.....makes me nervous. LOL. Where there's a will, there is a way with that boy.....you can put it on top of a shelf, and he will go get a ladder just to climb and up get it.....and yes, he is only 3! We also have a 3 legged dog that is a neighbors dog who likes to roam the town. Everyone knows him. If you are riding a bike, the darn thing will run at you and try to bite your legs. To date, i dont think he has caused any wrecks, but its just a matter of time. The owners could care less about the dog. they have been warned...its going to chase the wrong person, and end up getting shot.

When I trapped, I was placing the skulls on top of my shed to clean later. They started disappearing. I thought hawks or owls were taking them. Last spring, while doing some cleaning of my shed, I found a few skulls in the nest of a pack rat that had taken up residence in my shed.
