info on rattlesnake hide tanning

New to the business and need to know steps to tanning a snake skin. Been told to skin it and flesh all meat off then throw it in antifreeze in ref for several days. Do not want it stretched and dried, only tanned. Any experts out there that can advise me? Thanks!

If you are serious about tanning a snake, forget antifreeze and get a Rittel's Reptile tanning kit and follow the directions.Don't thaw your snake till you get your kit and are ready to proceed. It is a true tan and will produce a quality product.

I'm still looking for that ignorant SOB who keeps telling people to use antifreeze.

LOL George I ran across a fella here in Texas at a Swap meet the other day as I was standing at his booth looking over some antlers he had ,He was talking to a fella about just that ,using antifreeze to tan snake and lizard skins. chuckling I walked off and about 10 mins later the fella that was asking about the tanning came up to me and ask why I was laughing , I turned and looked at him and said here and wrote down a notation on a piece of paper and said if ya want to learn to do it right check this site out and also told him to come buy and I would let him use some of my DVDs to help him also you would think the fella that was talking about the antifreeze would be Older but I think this guy was in his 30's anyway thought it was kinda funny.

The antifreeze info these jack-holes have erroneously meted out over the years has been the ruin of many a good snakeskin...and a few household pets as well. If memory serves me, it seems that this method was more prevalent when I lived in south TX than in other places I've lived, though I don't know why. Breeding indeed, George.

Don't you know? All dangerous chemicals can also be used to home tan any hide.
