Allergies?

Anyone know if the tanning process makes hides hypo-allergenic? My husband is deathly allergic to rabbits and I just got a dry-tanned rabbit hide. He's having some bad coughing/sneezing and I am worried. He never reacted to my wet tanned specimens like coyote, fox, etc. I do have salted opossum and raccoon in-house but they're not moldy. An outside possibility is mold from our basement. Any thoughts?

No. Tanning does not remove all the Allergens. It does remove some but not all. Most people have a lesser reaction to a tanned thing than the live thing...
Ps... I hear Opossums are actually 'hypoallergenic"....

Well if the rabbit is dry-tanned, then I don't think ANY allergens would have been removed at all.

Dry tans are Washed, tumbled and Groomed.
Dry Preserved skins would probably NOT be washed and thus have all the allergens intact.

I am very allergic to hides that have been dry tanned for rugs etc. from tanneries. I am also very allergic to trees, and saw dust from them so, I suspect it is the tumbling medium I'm allergic to, than the tanning chemicals.
