I have two deer heads  that a friend gave to me I would like to remount them.I know they were tanned with liquid tan.Can they be remounted and is there a chance of hair loose.If it can be done how would i go about doing it.Thanks.

I think you're better off getting new capes for the re-mounts.  Contact Jody "northernmontana" on this forum since he should have just about anything you need.

Spray them down with a garden hose then seal them in a trash bag for a day or two. If they loosen up enough to be re taxied  and the hair stays in then fine if not you will have to do this to get the old capes off anyway.

They will only break your heart. Get fresh hides. Previously mounted hide forms a "memory" and won't remount on different forms.

George. I'd have to disagree to some degree.  Only being a very beginner and saying I've never used a liquid tan.  But I just did one that was krowtanned about 3 years ago and that one had no memory at all after dehydrating.  I let it soak over night, the next morning flipped it over. Then in the afternoon pulled it apart. Rinsed it out real goog to get rid of the hide paste.   It sat in the fridge over night wrapped up.   Besides a little epidermis loss around the eyes it was just like the day I took it out of the "tan".   There was no memory at all.

That's because you never tanned the hide. A well tanned hide will form a memory.
