Triple Thick Problem

Has anyone else had trouble with triple thick cans leaking? I can't always find it, so the last time I saw it at Walmart I bought 4 or 5 cans, all they had left. I was painting some eyes today and reached for a powder only to find it was stuck to the cart. Here the can of TT I had on the cart had leaked out glossing about $400 worth of paints to the cart. I think I can save the bottles of paint and my powders but they are covered with TT. My watercolor pencils are glossed shut, so if I can't get it open I'm going to try to cut the edges of the case off. My waxes look ruined though, I couldn't get them off the cart and it looks like the TT may have eaten through the case or something.
I read the can and it was stored properly, dry, upright and well below 125 degrees, not near anything that would heat up either. After I checked all the paint I went to check my cabinet. Sure enough another one had leaked in there and I don't even know what all it has glossed down. I was too fed up to check that. I called Krylon's 800 number, but they will not be in until tomorrow.

Wow. I can feel your pain (and anger) at what happened. While I certainly have no explanation for why the cans leaked, I will say that I use TT by the case and have never had a can leak. I'll keep my fingers crossed and my cans isolated so any leaks will be confined.

It says on the can to have the batch number when I call. I don't use nearly as much as you Perca, but I've never had an issue like this before. I hope this is an isolated issue with a certain batch. I'll be calling tomorrow and if I find it is a batch problem I'll be sure to post the number so everyone can check their cans.

What assumptions did you make to determine that I am "another satisfied customer" of "wally world"? What lesson did I learn?

I use TT all the time. Have gotten it from many suppliers over the years including WM and so far no problems what so ever...knock on wood. Can you see where the cans may be leaking? From a seam, nozzle area or maybe even where they may have been scored from a box cutter. That might help when you call Krylon. Let us know what you find out.

I can't tell for sure where they leaked from. It seems to be around the bottom.

I talked to a customer service rep from Krylon today. Both cans that leaked were from the same batch and she had me check my other cans and sure enough, two cans from that same batch are starting to leak too. She said she didn't have any other reports from that batch, but she would record it as a batch problem. She said they would be sending me a case (6) of TT, and I asked about the other damaged stuff. She had me take photos and make a list and email it to her, so we will see. Total damages came to $531.75.

Just out of curiousity and not to be antagonistic but if you can save the paint and powders, and possibly other items with some gloss on them, how would you have that much in damages? I would think the cart would have to have a lot of gloss to cover the bottles enough to not be removed.

That is the number I came up with to buy everything new, but I also added how much of everything had been used and what I thought I could save. The only things I think might be ruined are the cart, the powders and waxes. My watercolor pencils are sealed shut so I'll be cutting the case open to see if any got inside. I didn't think one can would be able to stick that much stuff down either, but some things don't feel like they want to come up at all. The bottles of airbrush paint seem like they may all break loose, but they are going to have quite a bit of gloss on the bottom. I might try acetone to see what I can clean up, but I want to see what they have to say first. I have to get these fish mounted before I need the paint anyways.

As opposed to a SEAM LEAK ya foam burning MOFO.....lol. A puncture meaning not a batch defect just bad handlling at some point.
Btw, good info on the foam burner/cutter. I think a hot knife ( I kinda like the "demand product" one) would be all you'd need.

Yeah, I couldn't resist that one Brian! LOL!
I should get my 6" hot knife by Wednesday or Thursday. It's not like the Demand one. From what I understand that one is pretty slow. At least the version that looks exactly the same that HWFF sells is slower. The one I"m getting is the yellow one on the HWFF website where it's just a thin rod vs. a knife-looking thingy. We'll see. The one I'm getting with the power source ends up being like $70 bucks cheaper. I'm hoping it gets the job done because I'm sick of using a hand saw!
