I just got my first 6900 form and it's a little bigger than the measurements in the book, not a problem I'll use it on a different deer, are you guys finding this the norm, If so I'll just order a little smaller in the future

Did you try putting the cape on the form? I don't think I've ever measured a form except for doing measurements to make alterations for comps and what not. Have mount probably 10 69s now and haven't had a problem with them not fitting.

How much is a little? Try to test fit the cape before ordering a new one.

I tested it on the form, its seems almost 1 size bigger, remeasured my cape 171/2 x20 x22 book says 69-720, form measures 18 x 21x 23. The form even is stamped 69-720. I have another deer that this will work fine on.

I have actually moved up a size bigger form than my measurements.  For instance I just mounted on last week, done about 6 on the 6900 so far, that the cape measured 22" and it fit fine on a 23".   Everyone may vary just a tad on how they take the measurements.  I take a meat measurement and it works great for me.   The great thing about the 6900 Series is the neck swell just below the ears.  If a form is too big you can shave a little off of that area to get the fit that you need.  There's usually plenty to work with unless you just flat out screw the measurement up.

Mark, you didn't see my post, did you?  Yep, you're right.  I'd caution ANYONE planning on using this form to fudge up your measurments.  I ground 2 inches of goiter off the upper neck  I had a personal deer of mine to try first.  It was a 22" (tight under the chin.  I ordered a 21" and am damed glad I did.  It would NEVER have fit the 22 inch.  Even after grinding that neck down, it was still a bear to get the hide over that portion of the upper neck.  The face fit fin as did the brisket, but it you bump your measurements up, you're likely to find yourself with some serious alterations.

I like the features of this form, I'll just have to get used to the sizing

I put one together today and had the same problem as George. Had a 22 1/2" meat measurement on the "B" and put it on a 22" form. I ended up taking about 3/4" off the swell tight behind the ears because for the life of me I couldn't get the cape over it. Mounted up great afterwards though.

I haven't had a fit problem, although I use my tanned measurements to order forms usually.  I have mounted on the 7223 twice now and both times the capes fit like a dream.  I find the nose is a little more flared than i like but that is easily changed with some rasping and clay

I measure snugly over the hair and buy forms to that measurement. When you shave your skin and mount it, the finished product will be that dimension anyway. When you measure meat, you are discounting the thick skin and membrane that you are going to remove anyway. I never agreed with meat measurement method. It's simply wrong to do it and base your form on. THIS IS MY OWN OPINION. Individual results may vary. Past performance is not indicative of future expectation.

Greg, does that mean if the meat measurement is used, then a guy can actually order a size bigger?

MAYBE.......

Some forms are already larger than the size they say in the catalog. Measure one sometime and you will be surprised. When I say snugly over the hair....I mean damned tight over the hair. You are taking my way of being exact and trying to fudge with it anyway...LOL! If I measure 21 at the B tight over hair...I order a 21. I aint afraid to rasp a form though if it makes the fit better to the other measurements. What I don't like is mounting a skin on a form that is obviously too small.

Mac1 quote:
My 2010 Buck had meat measurements of 24x19.5  It was mounted on a Ben Mears SUO 23x22.25 because the C meat measurement was too small for the 24x23 form.  That is what the taxidermist chose.  It had the swell in the neck of the bigger form, but the C measurement way under.  So based on measuring the outside like you and many others prefer, could I have gotten a 24x23 to work with that deer?  The taxi that is giving me pointers believes in meat measurements. I am obviously still learning
