im a hobbyist looking to get into waterfowl... what is the best way to approach a local taxidermist and ask if he/she would let me sit-in, or give lessons on waterfowl? is this somthing they get often? I'd be glad to pay to watch, and/or learn.
Thanks

Go to some seminars at state shows as well.  You'll pick up a lot there.  The Surry Mini-Course in NC has a load of classes over 3 days & it is very reasonably priced.  I think it usually costs somewhere around $68.

I got lucky, I found a local taxidermist that was getting into breeding chickens but didn't know much about genetics so I traded my knowledge of genetics for his knowledge of taxidermy. He always comes to me when he has questions on breeding set ups. When I didn't have enough spare cash to pay for forms and all the parts, I offered to clean stalls/pens for him to pay for it and it worked. Maybe you could find a local taxidermist that would let you clean pens or something to let you sit in

I just talked one of the taxidermists that I had do some work for me in the past, we became friends and he lets me pick his brain. I do provide him with a good supply of waterfowl for show pieces too Smiley
