Well it finally happened to me, my freezer went out Undecided  I had a 31" rainbow trout in there that was partially froze and smelling pretty rank. I managed to get the fish unwrapped and noticed the fish actually looks pretty good, and far as scale lose and so on. I normally soak my fish in borax, Lysol and water. My question is, would DA help to hold the scales better if this skin is actually in the stage of deterioration?
Thanks for your time,
Brian

Soak a couple hours in the DA and skin it on a piece of glass, use a little bit of Dawn in water so the skin does not stick to the glass.  It should work out fine.

I would after skinning use only Dawn to wash the skin and right back into the DA for an overnight soak and mount.

If it was still partially frozen it shouldn't stink from your freezer going out. It should have been cold enough. So, if it smells "rank" then your freezer either went out a previous time and eventually kicked back on or it was "rank" before it was brought to you. Are you sure it isn't justy fishy stank and not rank???

I think it thawed and then came back on, partially freezing the fish again.
