Repo finish coat?
«

This may be a dumb question but due to my lack of knowledge on reptiles I am poised to ask this question.
After all the painting is done on a reproduction lizard would a gloss or matte finish be better. After looking at reference pictures it is hard to tell if the pic is glossy or if the animal has a glossy wet look to it. Thanks for any info,
Regards, Geno

On most lizards most likely it would be a matte finish. That is what I use on my reproduction lizards. Some monitors live near water and depending on what your mount is portraying....then a wet look might be in order. Like an alligator if it is fresh out of the water it would be wet, if it had been basking in the sun all day, then it would have a dry look.
What species of lizard is your reproduction?

Thanks Kirby, it's a Gila monster not sure if that is actually part of the lizard family or not.

Definitely a lizard. Gila monsters (helodermas) are split into banded and reticulated sub-species. But some believe they are all the same.
