walleye, open mouth open gills.  I was looking to cut the tongue where the gill rakers start, and where they meet the inside top of mouth.  then building a dam around the mouth, and pouring rubber inside , with the gill cover up. then turning over, when cured, and pouring over the outside of the head, with a dam around the head. anyone ever done this?  is there some unforeseen problems?  any suggestions? is it best to freeze the head?  mold max 20, or dragon skin? with dragon skin, should I do a thinner coat, say 1/4 in. then a mother mold? will it stretch better for under cuts? should I cut the teeth of first? what will be the best way to fill the mold?  Dan

you can mold the inside mouth seperate from the head and fix the cast in place afterwards.....most people cast the whole head in silicone

You can mold the whole head in alginate, including open mouth, then make a one piece cast. There is a DVD available on this method by Frank Kotula.

you can invert the fish in alginate in a cup or something..... and after it sets work out the head slowly....watch out the gill covers don't get caught on the alginate

Don,
Would your cup method work on a barricuda head with all those nasty teeth left in, or would I need to remove most of the larger teeth?

Guess my post wasn't clear enough.  Yes Don, I have your tutorial memorized...  My question is....   can I mold a head inside and out in one piece?  as in removing the gills, and rakers, at the top, and at the tongue..  would I mold the inside, from gill cover to lips, then the outside as per your video?  then how do I support this, and get the resin inside? maybe thru an eye hole?  Then I wan't to mold everything else sepperate.  the throat latch, with tongue, and the gills, with rakers attatched.  Dan
