Should I beware?
«

I posted on here looking for a zebra cape for pedestal mount, I received a message and email from a new member with one post. The guy has a tannery and sent pics of a nice zebra hide and wanted 450 for it. He seemed very knowledgeable and answered every question I had. He gave me 3 tracking numbers from 3 previous sales.
He said that shipping would take 3-5 days and I'm curious on how that will affect the hide? I'm not a professional taxi, just a hobbyist... He stated that the hide was tanned and is of great quality, no holes, scars, ect... Would I have to rehydrate the hide or how does that work? Also the hide wasn't pure white ( which I wouldn't expect ) but is it possible to completely replenish the white of the hide? Is just looked stained from dirt ect... I can post pics. Thanks In advance guys!!

You should be careful with the payment method he told you. If it's something like western union, you should not trust the man because there is no possibility to be refund if it didn't work.

There are other ways to check his legitimacy, ask for references, if he has a tannery, you would think he has had customers before you. Did you ask the name of his tannery and run a search?

I think you are in a little over you head to start.
Now $450 for a zebra cape is pretty cheep. Did you talk to this person on the phone?
Is he in the US?? If not it is most likely a scam. Even if he did have a hide out side the us you would have to clear it through fish and wildlife to be legal importing it and again be in way over your head........

Most tans are a yellowish color when coming from a tannery. If you meant the white stripes it may just be a rust colored zebra. The one I have in to do right now is more rust colored than bright white stripes.

It is very risky to carry out western union transaction since the receiver of your money can hardly be traced had it been he/she used but fake identities.
Who is the guy are you talking about? Please, i am just new here too but i think i can help you if you let me know him well. Do you have his email or registered name?

one thing you definitely want to know is how long has it been tanned. if it is over 1 year it may soak up and be like rubber. also what tannery it was tanned at. then call them and ask questions.
