bought 3 capes on EBAY. next time i will know better

I needed some capes to remount some of the first heads i did.
i found a bunch on EBAY from new york for $30-$40 each with free shipping.
i bought three.
they came yesterday in nice foam lined box's.
the hair was slipping bad on two of them.
they had the scent gland at the corner of the eye just chopped thru on all of them.
they where already rough fleshed
i sprayed them with stop rot
i turned the lips, eyes and ears and thru them in the Krowtan.
maybe they will make it maybe not.

I bought one from that guy too, and had one of the pre-orbital glands whacked right off too. It was suppose to be a 22" cape, when the box arrived, it was a little 6 x 9 x 11 box, smaller inside due to the foam board insulation, I said to myself, "there ain't no 22" cape in there!" It was actually a 20" and it was cut to the quick, zero extra skin,, forget pedestal mounting these capes. It tanned out fine, but was green in spots when it arrived. Raw skin stretches just from skinning, this guy stretches them out for pictures, but even when raw after it thawed, I couldn't get the size he advertised. You get nothing extra from this guy, because he doesn't charge shipping, it is going to be as small as he can cut it.
Never again. I didn't leave feedback because it would only tarnish mine, as he didn't leave me any feedback either. He just will not get my business again.

the guy was just so close to doing a good job
an extra minute to skin out the pre-orbital gland
spray on some stop rot before he freeze's them
i will send him a message and then give negitive feed back
another lesson learned for me.

That guy is a down right Crook ; I`ve purchased a few 24 inchers from him and paid some high dollar for them , when they came you could tell they were smaller , they tanned out to 20 inches .I gave him a positive but said buyer beware on the feed back , i was banned from bidding on any more of his items ; thats what sellers do now to keep there neg down , there should be a better rating system on E-bay to protect buyers better. He says he capes them all out ;but i have talked to a guy in MI that sold him capes to sell. And bowfish if you give him a neg he will block you from bidding again ; but you probable wont buy form him again any ways !

I have looked at skins on eBay and thought about buying but always has a gut feeling not to so I follow my gut.
Please post his eBay user name! I will add him to my black list. Maybe also post this in the buyers and sellers section along with his address to keep those on here from getting burned.

So he has been whacking preorbital glands off for twenty years? We are not talking a nick, were talking gone, a dime size hole.

Mtmantax2012 was who i gave my money to.
Kendall NY
I got a relpy from him he said if i ship them back he will refund my money.
Since i put them in the krowtan to try to save them i doubt i will spend more to ship them back.
I figure every year he has a new ebay name

Bowfish next time you buy a cape, Google Jim Willard get his number and see if he has any capes for sale. You will pay a little more for his capes cause they are tanned and prepped to mount ; and the best thing, you will get the neck size stated and most times a little bigger In the last 4 years i have never had a problem with Jim`s capes he`s a stand up guy in my book.

You emailed me with threats.I quote."Two of the three capes have hair slipping out in clumpsAll three had the pre-orbital gland chopped right off leaving holes on the corner of all front eyes.I will leave negative feedback if I don't hear from you.also will leave negative post on taxidermy.netwww.mountinmantaxidermy.com"
I replyed"Dear jeepbowdeerhunt,Ship back the bad ones Mon and Ill send you a full refund.Sorry for the trouble."
Then you post on here.
I sell about 500 capes per year and I do have buyers that have trouble with them.It usually due to delays in shipping.I always make it right with the buyers.Im sorry about the eyes all you have to do is tuck them in.You bought $30-$40 capes. The capes you bought cost me $20 each and $10.85 shipping I rough fleshed them froze em foam lined boxes and paid ebay and paypal fees.If you wanted competition quaitly you should have bought them.
I sorry you werent happy.Read my feedback and youll see I have one NEG and and 1306 Positives.User name mtmantax.Lets see you try to maintain that kind of rating when selling an item that can spoil easily.
I work very hard to supply these capes to fellow taxidermists.I always stand behind my sales.
Its usually beginers or hot heads with tempers that have the problems.
