Homemade flesher

I was thinking about messing around with trying to build a homemade bird flesher.  I don't do birds for customers yet just wanting to start learning at my own pace.  I had bought a bird flesher about a year ago that I sold to concentrate on gameheads and fish now I want to get started again.  My ? is has anyone had very much sucess with this?  I know the motor has to be a low hp motor so it doesn't just eat the bird up.  I have a few floor fans that I was think would work for the motor.  When the fan is running on low  the rpms seem close to what my old flesher was and when you touch the shaft it slows down the same way.  Just looking for any information if anyone has any and if it's worth my time to try it,.?

Some years back, R.J. Meyer showed a seminar at the NTA how to make a quick bird flesher with a fan motor, a collet, a soft bristle wire wheel, and a cardboardbox. He stuck the fan shaft through the cardboard box and attached the brush.  He did the bird and then took the wheel off, pulled the motor out, and folded the slimy cardboard box up and threw it in the trash.  WHAT A CONCEPT.  No snot to clean up off the box.  LOL

In reality, however, fan motors can't sustain the load and if you bought a suitable motor from Grainger and then the metal, plexiglass, collets, and wire wheels PLUS the time it's going to take to make it, you can buy one ready to go for lless.  McKenzie and Van Dykes sell theirs for $236.  Seems like a better choice to me.

thats called a shaded pole motor...grainger has them

i had the small bird flesher had a h--- of a time doing goose had to put ice pack on motor to keep it cool. then i got the big one omygod what a different. now i can use the ice pack for my head ache!!!!!
