When To Rehydrate
«

I have a deer in with the bugs and my colony isn't that big yet and its drying up. I know the beetles will still clean it, but I thought I could help them with a soak in some ammonia mix to loosen things up some. I have given it a mist on occasion but that doesn't really do a hole lot.

If it's super hard soak in water, not ammonia and not for very long. If it's like jerky just leave it.

adding a little ammonia to the soak water is beneficial as long as the ammonia does not have any surfactants (soaps) shake the container, if it foams up and stays that way it has it. adding just ammonia to the soak water will ring the dinner bell for the bugs. just needs needs s little spash of it to work

I always thought that ammonia was a good thing with the beetles. I have some in my spray bottle. The skull isn't rock hard yet, I will let it go for a while more.

I guess I was mistaken. I thought he was going to soak it in straight ammonia.
