I suppose it's possible with only having a few pieces to do, but to produce a high quality mount and ALOT of them, I would say no. I see more and more of this around here and those guys are keeping me really busy with re-mounts!(LOL)

Mmmmmmm, then I guess in reality, ALL my mounts are "6 weeks".  When I start them to when they're finished, they take about "6 weeks".  HOWEVER, that timer doesn't start as soon as the guy drops it off.  It may be 10 months later.  I sense the guy is promising 6 weeks from the door to out the door and NO successful taxidermist is going to be able to "guarantee" that unless he only get's in 2 mounts a year - but I repeat myself.........................

were at about at 12week behind and we tell people that but never guarantee when it will be done to many things could happen we got a little behind when my dad got sick and then past away during the busy season  try to skin out deer heads and making sure he was OK it was a ruff year things are getting better but that is one reason you cant guarantee anything to be done anything could happen

Exactly George, everything here goes on a 10-12 month turn around. There is no way anything comes in the doors and is out in 6 weeks. Like I said, that's possible if you have maybe 3 pieces to do for the year, not 2-300.

If you got in ONE deer a week, each week of the year, and could do a quick in-house tan (or DP ..........forgive me), it seems possible.  Just not likely.  Really, not gonna happen.

Just the neighborhood hack trying to make your turn around time seem bad to the potential customer.

If the best thing he can say about his work is..........."it's quick",  what is he really saying?

I can't see how a 6 week turn around can be gaurenteed from drop off to pick up,maybe I am missing the boat. I could just work out of my hall closet and not have to have all the room in my shop for work to dry even.If I could and the finished mount was up to my standards I would be taking off 6 months to travel the world with a better pile of money. my reality is not

That's alright...no confession and absolution needed for suggesting dry preserve.

Just sayin'

Day one: cape, flesh, begin tanning, clean skull plate, order form.........

You could easliy have it on the form and drying within a week

Four weeks to dry

Finish work

Customer picks up, smiles, leaves your shop, you have money.

NOW, we all know it really will seldom if ever happen this way.  Just not realistic for a working shop.

On the other hand.........Once while talking to Archie, he told me...........

Bass come in every day.  They will not go home until EVERY bass has been skinned.

Every bass soaks overnight and is mounted the NEXT day.  From there it goes to the drying room

Dries for about 10 days,  finish work is done, painting is done, boxing and shipping is done.

In other words, every day your shop gets in 15-25 bass,  your shop skins 15-25 bass,  your shop mounts 15-25 bass, your shop finishes 15-20 bass,  you paint 15-25 bass, you box and ship 15-25 bass.  EVERY DAY, and this does not include other species or supplies sold to other studios, or the fiberglass blank production.  Assembly line production and efficiency, all the way to the bank.  At least that is how I understood his system.

It all amounts to starting on a specimen the day it arrives.   Like I said, not really realistic for most.

Its enough of a struggle to keep up with taging, customer paperwork, capeing, salting, till dark everyday expecially during rifle season when the line is a mile long it seams to guarentee 6 weeks.I guess i could hire about 20 people but then it would not be my work.

And in locations with short seasons (2 weeks or so) it is not realistic at all.

Here in SC the season in the lowcountry starts Aug 15 and goes to New Years, but even then, many wait for the weather to cool off and the weekends are always busier so of course it will not work for a real shop.
