My son is 8 and wants to enter in a taxidermy competition. He has no experience am I allowed to give him pointers as he goes or is it strictly him on his own.

Yes you can give him pointers, Just let him do the project, if you would help him that would not be fare to the others that are competing...

Thats called teaching. If you teach while he is doing a project so be it. Nothing wrong with that. He will learn from the judge on the hand on part of it.
