I would say white in the back & none in the front , that's the way i do all mine unless i am looking for eye rotation then one has white in the back & the other in the front. Even though you can see some in the front now, your nictitating membrane will cover depending how much you have exposed. The best you can do is look at reference photo's , let that be the ultimate guide .

I would say no white would be more accurate, but those just got hit by a slug bucks have a pretty open eye where I think that's possible

i was hoping someone would point that out. Gosh...people seem to shy away from actual reference anymore...look at a pic...and apply it. Its pretty simple stuff.

Hey AJH,
Here is a tip for you. Believe me, my replies here are not meant to be smart @$$ in any way. Just to help.
Every animal we have ever got in our shop to mount. We research them first and obtain a pile of reference. We then pin them to a bulletin board in the shop, while we are working on that critter. Even deer, after how many hundred we have put together. We still, hang reference, for each piece. For wichever attitude we want to depict on each critters face.
We then catalog these pics in our filing cabinet, for when we mount another one. Most of these pictures, we take to our local print shop and have them laminated for 10 cents a piece. Keeps them from getting ruined with water and such.
Hope this helps some! good luck with your deer.
My personal choice, would be to show white in either front or back. Wichever way you want him to be looking.
Ron

It depends on the attitude of the deer! If you ONLY have reference of relaxed eyes then reference won't help you one bit. Short answer is YES they can show white in both at the same time, depends on what you are trying to depict.

Ya when their dead!
i was told never white in the front or rear at the same time.
looking left then: right eye white in the rear
left eye white in the front
and the opposite for right turn.
however this is just what i was told second hand from a dummy

I can't recall ever seeing a deer with white showing on both sides horizontally, (keep in mind their eyelids, like most mammals, open up and down) but I suppose it is in the realm of possibility. That being said, that is all the more reason for accurate reference. For a deer's eyes to show white on both sides would require substantial movement in its facial features around the eye and you would need to make the corresponding adjustments. If you want white on both sides, find a reference photo that depicts that and mold/taxi your mount accordingly.

I appreciate the Pro-Staff Advice that is given on here, and rarley take offence. I am using references and maybe my question was vauge and would lead some to beleive I'm actually dumber that I look. LOL. I have the general idea on how the Eye rotates and how the whites should be opposite in both eyes. I have the eyes intalled with a slight rotation but the eye that I planned to only have white in the front also ended up showing white in the back too. When I was working my eye shape, It was like trying to put a 20" tire on a 15" wheel. So, I was scraching my head thinking may be the glass eye was too small? I just wanted to make it right before it dries. I'll try to get the extra skin/eye lid to work to a smaller shape. The eye skin laid in naturaly to show white on both sides, leading to my dumb question. Thanks for the advice.

sorry doug but that ref pic doesn't show white on both sides. look again that is white on the front side but the back is the deer's skin showing. I'm not say it isn't possible but if you are saying that ref pic does well look again. AJH for the most part a little in the back is ok or a little in the front but not both at the same time is common. This one all depends in the rotation of the eye and the way you want him looking. Deer will show both sides white when they are dehydrated.
