Nice cat Dennis. Hope I have one that looks like that the end of May. Going to Namibia for leopard. The costs to get a cat like that are expensive. $6000 is cheap.  To bad it's MI only. Otherwise that hide would be sold already.

I think that as long as transaction (person to person) takes place in Mich. there would be no problem taking it out of state as long as it WASN'T for resale.

newhouse,  the cat cannot go beyond michigan state lines whether it is intended for resale or not. it is no different than trying to buy or sell tiger skins.

NOPE don't give anyone information that you are guessing at, or making them think anything but what is legal.
You can move this cat across state lines IF after you buy it as a resident of Michigan, you move your household out of state to a new residence.
Then your stuck , you can never again sell it, back to someone in the Mich or the state you then reside.

Thinking about the law and not knowing it is just as bad as saying " Assume" and we all what that does.

As for the poster of the 2k leopard in Texas?, that doesn't help anyone in Mich, they can't own or buy that one , this one they can.

You can buy this cat in any state and apply for a permit from USFW just like you do for anything else protected. I do it with reptiles all the time. I think the permit is $100 and there would be no reason to deny it if the cat is legal to begin with - and of course it is. Just a heads up if someone outside MI wants to buy it. It takes about 3-6 months to get the permit. I know cause I bought a number of indigo snakes and this was the process. I bought them out of CA where they do not naturally occur - like leopards do not occur in the NA continent. But crossing any state line with A Appendix I II or III listed animals is a violation of the Lacy Act. The permit is easy to get. It does not matter where you live - there are two offices I think that issue these permits. So someone buy this cat and be happy !!!
