this is the tan i have with my kit. now yall know that this is my 1st mount.  the directions said to rub the tan into the hide then fold and place in fridge for 5-6 hrs. then freeze if i cant get to it at that timee. is this tanning solution suppose to dry and you work the hide? or does it stay wet ...hints the term wet tanned?

After you rub it in, cover it or bag it so it won't dry out.  The tan will be absorbed.  It is a wet tan.  You can wash the hide before mounting if it seems oily.

I'm just a every once in awhile taxidermist and I've been using Curatan since the mid 1980s. I use Curatan on all my Fur mounts from a flying squirrel to deer heads. I like it, but it's all I've ever really used. I have used borax and other instant preserves, but I have always went back to the Curatan. Curatan tan is a wet tan and I always pickle the hides small or large. I can get alot of stretch out of the smaller hides, but the larger ones is all about how thin you get the hides. I have a hide stretcher for my deer capes only and I have also found that the temperture and humidity in the area you are doing your mount makes a difference too. I try to keep my shop as cool as I can stand it. My deer mounts will stay wet enough to move around for a couple of days, but after that it's pretty much set.
