I have tanned deer, wild hogs, elk, bobcats, coyotes, pronghorn antelopes, sheep, mountain lions, beavers, and coons. I haven't had a problem with Krowtan.

How about some of those really THICK Moose and Elk ? Has any tried those ?
You know some Elk are way thicker than others.

I have done Bear and several Elk.............I haven't done any Moose with KT..............those were commercial tanned..........
The small Elk are not that bad but the big ones are a pain to handle............The Krowtan did a good job on the big Elk, they are just a pain in the but because of the size............
That,s a good reason to send the really large stuff off to a tannery.........
You have to make sure you have a container large enough to handle a large cape...........
If your not really familiar with home tanning in general then I definitely advise that you send stuff like that to a tannery..........

I'm thinking about using KT myself, here's a question, after soaking the skin in the KT and neturalizing it, would rubbing some tanning oil in it be a good idea. I'm thinking ahead with the hide drying to hard with no oil in it, and shrinkage. Thanks for any ideas

I suppose you formulated that opinion with your extensive use of the product?

iTimber ghost you are full of chittlins.
Krowtann is a fine product has been used by several World Champions!!!
I have tanned everything from hogs to bear to elk and a couple hundred deer using it. the only problems I have had ARE MY FAULT!!!
Brian the maker has done bear, deer elk and a whole lot of award winning small mammals.
While some people will argue all day long about Krowtann it has the same ingredients that LUTAN-F has, just not in powder form!!!!
Just finished a bobcat rug that was Krowtanned two years ago with it. and used Krow oil on the tanned skin. I htought what to hell I will tan this cat for a rug and see how it works for thin skinned rugs. it worked fine. I tumbled it after oiling, and worked to for softness. let it lay around the shop for two years and rugged it, well I did the head and had a rugger do the rugging part as part of a test. To see just to see if a commercial rugger would know the difference. Well it is rugged and fine as any Commercial tan! ready for the customer who called wanting one!.
