I shot this photo of "Willie" on 9/27/06 at 6:43 PM with a Fuji FinePix S3 Pro. I had the sun to my back but still used a flash. Willie is 1-1/2 years old.

His head was facing nose-down at about 45 degrees and the pupils were still level with the horizon line. The shape of the eye is really different than most mounts that depict this. Look how soft and full the skin is. Also notice the fullness of the upper lid underneath the eyelashes. You can also see my reflection above his pupil. For shots this close I don't try to look through the viewfinder. I just guess at what I am shooting. On this one the automatic focus worked great and I got lucky.

Great shot Rick.  I notice, you are still in that trout stream looking for nymphs.  Your expertise is always appreciated on both taxidermy and nymph hunting)

After extensive conversations with you, I know that you are well aware of how important it is to explore the possibilities of finding good nymphs. I will remain steadfast in my endeavors.

Here's a mature buck in the same pose as Rick's.  Check out how they pucker up those lacrimals with the head in that position.

How's come these two deer aren't showing white sceleras?  And how's come Rick's deer has such dark pigment around it's eye lids?

Bad news; Willie died last week of EHD. He was a great deer and very camera friendly.

Glen, if you're going to continue insisting that deer don't show any white in their eyes, might I suggest you use a better photo editing program than you're using now and eliminate that small patch of white that's to the rear of that particular eye?  GOTCHA!!!

Oh, Uncle George, you ain't "gotchaed" nobody.  That white spot is just the cap for the filler tube for the aqueous vitreous.

Buck, you've missed out on a few past threads where yer Uncle George and I get to bickering and bantering.  Whitetails can set us both off.  Any time someone starts stating iron clad rules........watch out!

I vaguely remember a past thread since the new format on white sceleras/scleras being displayed.  Easy enough answer.  Click on the jpeg description under any of the deer photos in this category.  That will download them into your photo program.  At that point you can enlarge away and see as to how many display white or brown scelera.  Put a mark down for a brown and another mark down for a white, and when you're done, go back and count 'em off.  What's the ratio?

Once you've gone through this group of photos, here's a few more.................
http://www.realdeerforms.com/WhitetailDeerPictures.html

So...............does the immortalized Willy eye display brown or white?

Glen, say hello to Willow.  Just ignore the obvious, however.  Hello will be sufficient. LMAO

Glen, as far as I see it, they have a wide Brown and a small Brown band coloration ! You can't convince a Ford fan that a Chevy is better...it's the same with Eyes ! If I paint them with "Less Showing" I get "Reamed" if I have them with more White !  Same thing!.. Dammed if you do and Dammed if you don't !  You Guys fight it out ,and I'll paint them how the Guy with the most rea$on$  tells me to !  * Since I'm on Deer Eyes, NOW I have to look even closer at this "little Spat" you two Guys got going on here.
