After seeing many of the fine quality pieces being posted, we thought we would try a weekly post where forum members could post a picture of that certain fish that stuck out above the rest over the last week. It seems  that every week in our shop a certain fish turns out extra well or is a bit out of the ordinary. By posting some of your work here, everyone can benefit from seeing the variety of fish that are completed in shops all over the US and world . What an educational experience! In process pictures would also be great .

Two rules we think should apply:

1. No negative comments or critiques( unless asked for)

2. Give a little information about the piece ( where it was caught, what made it difficult, special techniques used etc.)

Everyone welcome to post of course, don't be bashfull! After all, we're starting it off with one of our pictures, that should break the ice!!

If it works out , and if the administrator approves( hi Ken) , we will start another post next Friday.

Here's a picture of a 52" East Coast Striper we finished up on Monday for one of our wholesale clients. Skin Mount with  an artificial head. 60 lbs+ . It took quite a good sized crate and luckily UPS accepts packages up to 160" ( L + G) so our client saved a little on truck shipping.

We used photobucket- super easy and free. After uploading the pic, hit the "edit" button and select the "80% of original  pic-message board " option. Then click on the URL thats listed under the pic so it turns completely blue, right click and hit "copy".
Your done there.   Go to taxidermy.net and hit reply( of course) . Hit the" insert image" button( above smiley faces). Two "img" will appear on the message area with the curser between them. Right click and hit "paste" the URL address for your picture will appear.
Hit preview to see your pic.

Hope that helps!!

Being stuck in the middle of Oklahoma, there is not an abundance of saltwater fish brought to the shop.  Recently, I did have a customer bring in a Bonnethead Shark, he wanted replicated.  I ordered a blank from New Wave and Mike custom made some eyes for it.  I did the finish work and I painted it.  I had about three good reference photos  that I Googled and the actual fish to paint by.  Anyway, I know nothing about these beast, but it was pretty cool getting to complete a shark.  It was the first shark I have ever done.  I am sure you saltwater guys are laughing your butts off right now.  Anyway, blast away, critiques are welcome.
Nice stripers and trout above (A+), they are actually more in my league.  Great Job.

Awsome Ken!  How long was that Bonnethead?  I've never done one but have worked on large Hammerheads.   Look at all the tiny spots.

It was a 39" blank.  I originally had painted very few dots on the entire fish, because of the reference photos I gathered had only a few.  Then I remember, the real one was in the freezer.  So, I pulled it out to thaw.  This thing had hundreds of tiny dots.  So, I put more on it.  I actually think it looked better with only a few, but,,,,,,,,,

Greg, Aaron........great idea, and the response has been great.......thanks for the nice comment.......I do more Striped Bass than anything........they are a very hard fish to duplicate, and time consuming to say the least........ the size of the fish, proper color and scale tipping on a large scaled fish like a large Striped Bass, is very hard to duplicate and even harder to pull off realistically........Crusty posted some great macro shots of the intricate coloration of the scales on Striped Bass........I also have plenty of macro detail shots I will post, once I transfer from 35mm slides to digital........great idea again, and looking forward for this to continue
