I have a Buffalo in Maceration right now, its been in a few weeks now. I will try to get some pictures posted tommarow. It was one a friend thought he would put in his garden for the bugs to eat, type stories...LOL

Well, I got it a year later with the eyes, tounge, and all the yuckies still in it.

It actually looks "just about done". Cant wait, its going to be a pretty decent mount.

I don't see why not, I personally haven't tried one, but I know that they are more fragile than other bones. Maybe Wacbravo can ad some insight to maceration & birds.

hmmca if you very very carefull you might could but it get sloshed about and such the tiny bones will likely be brokwn and in the end I doubt thye will make it through straining process might be better to go with a beetle clean on them ,but a "croc-pot" I think this is what its called is so you can slow cook things over time and doesn't hold a whole lot but if you have somewhere to hook it up where you don't mind stink you can probably do birds one at a time in it.

Great post Wolfwoman. Had to laugh when the query of the kitchen sink came up. I've had some bizzarre stuff in the sink too. Though, I do have a large pot that is exclusively for simmering. (I cringe when I hear "Boil". Boiling is a no no) ... Regardless of what project ends up in the sink ... WASH and wash well. Use top end antibacterial soap and boiling water for clean up if it makes you feel better. I have weird things in the sink all the time .. I keep things sterile and clean ... no problems. Smiley

I just done my first maceration.I can tell you the smell was awful.I got a wt skull from my buddy about Feb that was about 2 years old. It wasn't even skinned, just all dried out with hair still on it.I put it in a plastic bin right away with ammonia and water mix.Well I live in Wisconsin and it froze,so i just left it in their. It got warm and started to stink in April. So i had to remove of the deck, bad place for it anyway. When I moved it the smell was so bad that I blew chunks.Today I finally took it out.I got the pressure washer out and blasted it.I was surprise how easy the fur and flesh came off.Shot it at the brain and it came thru the nasal cavity. Now I got it in degreesing in dawn and water. If this doesn't work I'll go to something stronger.I was real impressed with this method,as I have only done the simmering method before. Thanks to everybody on this site,I've learned a lot.Keep sending out more tricks.I'll post pics of the finished product.

ROFL!! Jonny you're not supposed to inhale deeply around rotting flesh Smiley  That's ok, some people it bothers, others it doesn't. I don't know if anyone remembers Raven from the old taxi forum, but he once sent me an email about a trip he had to take (for work) to clean a whale skeleton. You think our skulls stink? They are ROSEY comparatively!! LOL
